Agnes Carpenter Bowie, 98, a resident of Indian Head, MD passed peacefully on December 17, 2015. As of October 1, 2012, she became a resident of Taylor Farm Assisted Living, Bushwood, MD.
Agnes was born in Indian Head, MD on July 9, 1917 to Clarence and Etta Carpenter. A native of Charles County, Agnes graduated from Lackey High School in June 1935. She later received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Towson University and did graduate work at the University of Maryland to fulfill her personal and educational requirements to become a school teacher in the State of Maryland.
After becoming a public school teacher, Agnes taught at Glasva, MD, and at Indian Head Elementary School, Indian Head, MD. She later entered the field of Public School Administration as Vice Principal at Indian Head Elementary School, Indian Head, MD. She was an active member of the National Education Association, Maryland Education Association, and Education Association of Charles County. She was a member, and held office as the 1st Vice President in Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society. She was a charter member in the Business and Professional Women of Charles County, and held office as Corresponding Secretary. She was also a member of NARFE Chapter 126 of Indian Head, MD.
Agnes was married to Charles W. Bowie Sr. on December 28, 1941. She is the mother of three sons, Charles W. Bowie Jr., Dennis C. Bowie, and Christopher W. Bowie.
Agnes was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by sons and spouses Mr. & Mrs. Charles W. Bowie Jr., Mr. & Mrs. Dennis C. Bowie and Mr. & Mrs. Christopher W. Bowie, brother, Clarence Carpenter, grandchildren; Victoria Perkins, Kristina Poole, Justin Bowie, Olivia Bowie, Wyatt Bowie, Heather Young, Megan Ballentine, Anthony Bowie, Brandon Bowie, and great-grandchildren; Mackenzie Perkins, Julianna Perkins, John C. Perkins, Jr., Jacob Poole, Ellie Poole, Carly Poole, Laura Bowie, Naaman Ballentine, Miles Ballentine, Finn Ballentine, Ellis Ballentine, and Corey Bowie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles W. Bowie Sr., brothers, Mitchell Carpenter, Lemuel Carpenter, John Carpenter, and sister, Gertrude McWilliams.
