Mrs. Agnes Baugh Hayden, the beloved daughter of the late Mr. Vernon and Mary Baugh was born on October 27, 1940 in Decatur, Alabama. She departed this life on September 1, 2015 at her residence in Frederick, Maryland.
Agnes accepted Christ at an early age and joined Macedonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America where she was a member for years and served as church musician, youth coordinator, missionary society and numerous other capacities.
She received her formal education in the Decatur City Schools where she attended Cherry Street School and was a graduate of Lakeside High School Class of 1957. She also attained many degrees including a Bachelor of Science Degree and Master’s Degree from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University and a second Master’s Degree from Rutgers University. These degrees assisted Agnes in starting her career as an educator, where she was very dedicated and dependable for 35 years, teaching in the Decatur City Schools and retiring as a sixth grade teacher from West Morgan School.
Mrs. Hayden was active in many civic, professional and social organizations and some included: Le Belle Femme Club, Congenial Club, Delta Sigma Theta, National Education Association, and Alabama Education Association and the Morgan County Retired Teachers Association.
She was a lively, vivacious, fun-loving lady who never met a stranger and tried to see some good in everyone that she met. So much so that the youth gravitated to Agnes because she tried to understand them as well as giving them lifetime guidance. She was loved by all of her students. In addition to being a very congenial lady, Agnes was equally talented in the art, she mastered the piano, wrote poetry and created wonderful art work.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Dr. Trevia Hayden-Williams and son-in-law, Dr. Burt Williams; her granddaughter, Raine Williams all of Frederick, Maryland and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
