Norwich – Agnes B. (Wenzel) Christensen, 97, wife of the late Walter Christensen, formerly of Dunham Street and Lexington Avenue died Saturday afternoon, May 7, 2016 at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham. Born in Norwich on June 21, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Veronica (Schaffhauser) Wenzel. She spent most of her life on the family farm on Dunham Street prior to moving to Lexington Avenue.
She was married to Walter Christensen on June 14, 1948 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. He passed away on July 22, 1982.
Agnes was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church for many years and was a active member of the O-50 Club and ladies guild. She also belonged to the Rose City Seniors, the A.A.R.P., and the former Germania Club. She was last employed at the Medical Personal Pool retiring in 1987.
Surviving are her nieces and nephews Patricia Maines, Judith Maines-Lamarre, Carol Morgan, Ruth Ann Dufur, Joseph Wenzel, Louise Rossman, Marjorie Wenzel Winters, Thomas Wenzel, and Barbara Browne. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her son W. James Christensen; three sisters Veronica Sullivan, Mary Tyler, and Katherine Hawkins; and two brothers Michael and Joseph Wenzel.
Agnes’ family wishes to publicly thank the staff at St. Joseph Living Center for the care and compassion that was shown to Agnes during her time there.
