Agnes “Armetha” Harris was born in Sweet Home Arkansas, September 5th, 1930. Her parents were Elmer and Elsie Harris. She met William “Bill” Harris (no relation) when they were both working at U.S. Times. Bill told his friend, “You see that blonde over there, I am going to ask her to marry me.” He walked over and asked her and she said “Yes, as soon as I get a raise.” She got laid off but by then she knew he was the one for her and they got married. She was married to the love of her life for 55 years, until he went home to be with the Lord in 2009. She joined him on Feb. 14th 2017. Having been blind for quite a few years, it was great to know she literally got to see her Valentine that day.
Armetha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, and a daughter Iris “Ann” Annette Harris. Also predeceased were siblings William “Brewster” Harris, Ruby Davenport, Mildred Brown, Arthur Harris, and Katherine Duncan. She has a surviving sibling Aubrey “Pete” Harris.
Armetha has seven surviving children, Bill Holiman (Kelli), Beth Melton (Gary), Ruby Yule (Art), Iva Wood (Bill), Cathy Carter, Lynda Weeks and Bobby Harris (Connie).
Armetha has many grandchildren: Gary Melton Jr., Dusty Melton, Rusty Melton, Brandi Holiman, Beth Holiman, Jesse Bermensolo, Tereas Bermensolo, Candi Reid, Cassy Hoover, Chad Smith, John Harris, Bobby W. Harris, Tori Wood, Derek Carter, Max Carter, Jason Carter, David Carter, Aubrey McAnn, Mitch Weeks, Caleb Harris, Ryan Harris, Josh Moore and Kyle Potter. Armetha has 22 great grandchildren and more on the way this year. She also had several great great grandchildren and many children and grandchildren that became family because of love.
As we sat with mom those last days and weeks as she was preparing to take her next journey, I was struck as kids and grandkids came through, how each of those children knew they were special to her.
Now, we celebrate her life as she celebrates with her Savior and those who went before her.
