Adell Maye Adams, a resident of McIntosh, departed this earthly life to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, July 12, 2022, while at Mobile Infirmary surrounded by her loving family. Adell was born Dec. 5, 1932 to the union of Catherine Taylor Maye and Johnnie Maye. She confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of Lang’s African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where she served as a deaconess and dedicated choir member before her health began to fail. She was employed at the Albert P. Brewer Center for eight years.
Adell was a loving wife and devoted mother of 10 children.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Johnnie Maye and Catherine Taylor Maye; her loving and devoted husband, Leo Adams Sr.; daughter, Vanda Phillips; grandson, Tarus Jamal Adams; granddaughter, Tanisha Campbell; sisters, Viola Gambrell, Rosie Lee Everhart, Annie B. Hudson, Dorothy Maye, Clara Charles, Mary Dubose and Alice Taylor; brothers, Reuben Maye Sr., Frank Maye, the Rev. Clyde Maye Sr., John Maye Jr., Willie Maye, Benjamin Maye, Author Maye and Henry Maye; and sisters-in-law, best friend Etoria Toole, Myrtle Brown and Gusterence Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memories five daughters, Patsy (Wilbert) Reed of Las Vegas, Nev., Lori (Ronny) Reed, Doris (Ricky) Campbell and Deborah Adams, all of McIntosh, and Denise (Sean) Radcliff of Mt. Vernon; four sons, Clifford (Gracie) Adams of Columbus, Ga., Leo Adams Jr. of Chickasaw, John (Vernetta) Adams and Bruce (Valerie Stadmire) Adams, both of McIntosh; two sisters, Johnnie (Joseph) Whitt of Centerville, Miss., and Sadie Benson of Leroy; two brothers, Elder James Maye of Gulfport, Miss. and Henry Maye of Mobile; two sisters-in-law, Willie Maye Adams and Betty Adams, both of McIntosh; four godchildren, Geraldine Adams, Willie Ruth Armstrong, Sharon Adams and Ervin Abrams; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, some devoted, Monique Adams, Andretta Adams, Gabrielle Lang, Christopher Adams, Krishanna Ballard and Kadeidra Adams; with a host of nieces and nephews, some devoted, Diane Brown, Phillip Brown Jr., Rosetta Brown, Geraldine Adams and Lillie Boulder; and a host of other relatives and devoted friends, Laura Norwood, Anna P. Barnes, Jimmie K. Johnson, Florence and Jimmie Simon, Delia West, Willie Mae Adams, Wesley Barnes and Emma Moss, and all of the members of Lang’s Chapel AME Zion Church.
