Heidi Bowman, age 99, of Oakwood, GA passed away on August 20, 2020.
Born in Linz, Austria, Heidi lived under German occupation during WWII. After the war, she worked for the US Allied Forces as an interpreter. During that time, she met her future husband, John H Bowman, who remained in Austria to work on post-war reconstruction projects. After leaving the military, they moved back to her husband’s home town of Fort Worth, Texas.
Heidi lived a full and exciting life. After moving to Alabama with her family, she worked as an executive secretary with the Jefferson County Board of Education while earning accolades as a longtime member of the Alabama Designer Craftsman’s Guild. After retiring, she was a world traveler for numerous years visiting six continents. She has won multiple domestic and international awards for her enamels, cloisonné, paintings, and photography. Some of her art is currently on exhibit in museums around the world.
She is preceded in death by her husband (John Hugh Bowman), three of her children (John Milan Bowman, Heidi Marie Aschmann, Ralph Ernest Bowman), and grandson (John Aschmann).
She is survived by children Ronald Hugh Bowman (Beverly), Linda Armstrong Burgess (Eddie) and Roger Eugene Bowman (Billie), 6 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
