Adele (Manzione) Conticello, beloved wife of 60 years of William A. Conticello of Port St. Lucie,FL, passed peacefully on December 8, 2013, surrounded by her children, Debra & James Smith of Glastonbury; William & Sheryl Conticello, Jr. of Berlin; Jeffrey & Karen Conticello of North Kingston, RI; and Glenn & Sheila Conticello of Burlington. Adele also leaves 11 grandchildren to carry-on her legacy of family, faith and music: Allison (Smith) Foster, Adrianne (Smith) Warchol, Ryan Conticello, Jennifer Conticello, Amanda Ucci, William Conticello III, Joseph Conticello, Anthony Ucci, Emily Conticello, Emma Conticello and Julia Conticello, plus the most recent “light of her life,” her great grandson, Alexander Foster. Born June 7, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Delia (Izzo) & Louis Manzione, Adele is survived by two sisters: Catherine Approbato of Boca Raton and Joan & Vito Cricchio of Port St. Lucie West. She was pre-deceased by siblings, Edward Manzione, Frances Marasco and Joseph Manzione. An active parishioner of St. Bernadette Church Council of Catholic Women, Adele was also a member of the Scarlet Vamps Red Hats, Port St. Lucie Newcomers’ Club, V.I.P. and St. Lucie West Garden Club. Adele raised her family in Newington, and then retired to Port St. Lucie in 1995 after 22 years as a Customer Accounting Representation at Connecticut Natural Gas. Prior to moving to Connecticut in 1957, Adele had a professional singing career in NYC. She began singing at 10 yrs old and was managed by columnist Nick Kenny of the New York Daily Mirror. She performed under the professional name, Adele Manning, appearing at the Astor, Waldorf-Astoria and Copacabana as well as many other well-known hotels and supper clubs. Throughout the years, Adele also performed as a guest soloist at St. Brigid’s Church in Elmwood as well as the Newington Choral Club. In addition, she was the founder and musical director for the Newington Swingin’ Singin’ Seniors.
