SLY, Mrs. Ada R. passed away Sunday morning, March 31, 2013, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born on June 8, 1931, in Pennington Gap, VA a daughter of Robert and Mildred McKenzie Richards.
She graduated from Berea College in Berea KY with a bachelor’s degree in teaching and did some post-graduate work at the University of Wyoming. In 33 years of teaching Ada taught in rural Kentucky, Harrison, and Williamston Michigan, and retired after 26 years from Kalamazoo Public Schools. Ada was a member of Milwood United Methodist Church, M.E.A.R., and M.A.R.S.P. She enjoyed reading and traveling and after retiring, she spent winters in Florida.
Ada was preceded in death by her parents. On December 28, 1956, Ada was united in marriage with Donald R. Sly, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Steven D. Laurel Sly and Anne Sly all of Kalamazoo; a sister, Elizabeth J. Melton of Springboro, OH; a niece, Cindy Michael Vogt of Springboro, OH; and a nephew, Tom Elizabeth Melton of Waynesville, OH.
