Abe was predeceased by his parents: Abran, Sr. and Rosina Chavez; brothers: Andrew Chavez, Alfonso Chavez, and Manuel Chavez. 

Abe is survived by his loving wife of 39 years: Lizzie Chavez; daughters: Alyssa Kist (Chris), Dianna Baca (Anthony), Marta Padilla (Jon), Celina Chavez, and Celia Chavez; brother, Robert Chavez (Lenore); 10 grandchildren; and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, many relatives and countless friends.

Abe served as a lay minister with The Navigators and Emmaus Journey for 37 years. He lived by the two greatest commandments: to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39). He loved God first and loved his family. He was a life-long learner and prayer warrior. In addition to the love of his life, Lizzie, and his five beloved daughters, he delighted in his ten grandchildren. 

“Well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your Master.” (Matthew 25:28)
