Deacon Abraham “Cook” Chapman was born Nov. 5, 1937 in Grove Hill to the late Emmie Pugh and Clifford Chapman. He accepted Christ at an early age and united with the St. Luke Baptist Church of Grove Hill; later he joined the Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church of Grove Hill, where he remained a faithful and dedicated member until his health failed. He was a member of the Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church deacon board, a member of the Mt. Zion Men Ministries, former church treasurer and former member of the Utopia Lodge No. 251 F&AM.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Hoover Todd, Allie B. Calhoun and Mattie “Molly” Williams.
Left to cherish sweet memories, are his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Mattie Chapman of Grove Hill; three devoted children, Devain Chapman and Dwight (Vera) Chapman, both of Grove Hill, and Jennifer (Maurice) Jackson of Jackson; with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
