Abigail Marie “Abby” Sherwood, Indianapolis, passed away on the morning of Friday, October 25, 2019 at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio of complications from a bilateral lung transplant surgery. She was 18. Abby was born July 15, 2001 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of Michael H. and Jacqueline E. (Ayers) Sherwood.
Abby was a student at Franklin Central High School and was a member of the Class of 2020. She was crowned Homecoming queen on September 27, 2019. She had also attended Calvary Lutheran School where she was a cheerleader. While at Franklin Central, she was a member of the National Honor Society and played the flute in the concert band and pep band. Abby was a huge fan of the Indianapolis 500, the Indiana Pacers, the Indy Fuel and the Purdue Boilermakers. She had also worked at Greatimes Family Fun Park in Beech Grove.
In her leisure time, Abby enjoyed writing stories. She loved listening to music (especially the music of Queen), watching movies, reading and hanging out with her friends. Abby had a big personality, was funny, smart, loving, kind, caring and a good friend. She was a brave young lady and this courage was exemplified during her nearly life-long battle with Pulmonary Hypertension. She never gave up and was an encouragement to others throughout her medical struggles. She was a fighter and will be deeply missed by all who knew her!
Abby leaves behind her loving family which includes her parents, Mike and Jackie Sherwood; her siblings, Carson Sherwood and Jennifer Simpson; her maternal grandparents, Walter and Becky Hannowsky as well as her paternal grandfather, Mike Sherwood as well as her aunt, Debbie Sherwood. She is also survived by a host of many, many friends.
She is preceded in passing by her paternal grandmother, Celeste Sherwood.
