A. Jean Myers, of Elkhart, passed to her rest Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Greenleaf Health Care Center, at the age of 101.
Jean was born July 3, 1914, in Elkhart, the daughter of Oliver Raftery and Fern Henry.
She married LaMar M. Myers June 2, 1934. LaMar passed away Sept. 24, 2004. They had two children, Melodee Baker and Malcolm Myers, both of whom have preceded her in death, as well as her sisters, Jacqueline B. Walley and Alicia Thornton.
Surviving are four grandchildren, Todd Myers and Terry Myers, both of Elkhart, Tiffany Baker of Parma, Ohio, and Kara Finch and husband Zach of Littleton, Colo.; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Jean was a lifelong resident of Elkhart. She retired after many years working as an interior decorator for Rollie Williams Paint Spot. She formerly worked at Stephenson’s and Zeisel’s Department Store. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she helped with the yearly holiday bazaar and was a member of ECW (Episcopal Church Women.) Having contracted Polio at age 13, affecting her right hand, she had to learn how to write left handed. She enjoyed playing golf, gardening, sewing and hosting Christmas parties for her family.
